Buzzy-style vibrations may be too much for beginners
Love Not War Amore - Speed settings: 4
- Vibration patterns: 7
- Vibration frequency: 106 Hz to 191 Hz
- Material: Recycled anodized aluminum battery base; “Neosilicone” vibrator head
- Waterproof: Not really
- Rechargeable: Yes
If IKEA made sex toys, they’d probably look something like Love Not War’s line. Designed to be modular, this one is really a two-piece toy. One half is the Amore, a vibrator head attachment; to get it to actually run, you have to screw it into the brand’s compatible battery base. This is a mixed bag because while the battery base is compatible with a number of the brand’s vibrator heads, it also adds to the upfront cost for first-time buyers, making this one of the more expensive bullet vibrators we tested overall.
Short and hefty, the Amore looks like a classic lipstick-style bullet vibrator when it’s fully assembled. But at over 5 inches long, it’s bigger than the average lipstick bullet vibe and felt much heavier to hold. The battery base—which allows the toy to run for a little over 102 minutes at its highest setting—is made of 100 percent recycled aluminum, adding to its overall density. For me, the extra weight wasn’t a good thing. Because the shaft is so straight and heavy, it didn’t feel ergonomic to hold during longer sessions and my grip felt progressively weighted down. The area where it screws into the vibrator head attachment can be prone to water entry as well, so this probably isn’t the best toy for the tub.
That being said, I enjoyed this toy’s one-button functionality and mostly rumbly vibrations, and the brand offers one of the better warranty programs out there (a limited two-year policy). The Amore also comes with a drawstring travel bag made from eco-friendly Tencel lyocell, so it’s discreet for travelers, especially if you unscrew the pieces before packing up.
Perhaps the biggest thing that sets this toy apart from all the rest, however, is that the Amore attachment head is safe to use with silicone lubricant. It’s not every day you come across a sex toy that’s made with silicone yet still claims to be compatible with silicone lubricant. For users who prefer silicone to water-based lube (i.e., me), that alone is a huge selling point. But as impressive as it sounds, the toy’s silicone material is noticeably thin and doesn’t feel anywhere near as plush as what you end up getting with the Maude, PlusOne, or even Je Joue G-spot bullet vibe. For that reason, I found myself reaching for those toys more often than this one by the end of testing.

We-Vibe Tango X - Speed settings: 8
- Vibration patterns: 7
- Vibration frequency: 85 Hz to 157 Hz
- Material: ABS plastic; silicone
- Waterproof: Yes
- Rechargeable: Yes
When it comes to bullet vibrators, the We-Vibe Tango X is widely considered the gold standard thanks to its small size, slanted tip, and name-brand recognition. If you’re searching for bullet vibrators online, you’ll see this product splashed at the top of virtually every single best-of list you come across.
We don’t buy into the same hype and think that if you’re spending $80 or more on a bullet vibrator, you could do better than this one. In lab testing, we found it was prone to overheating. After putting it on its highest setting for 10 minutes and using a thermal imaging camera to measure its temperature, it got up to about 99°F, significantly higher than any other toy we looked at. You might expect this from a cheaper toy, but even under $20 picks like the PlusOne and the Lovehoney Magic Bullet didn’t get that hot.
In many ways, the price tag on the Tango X doesn’t reflect what you’re getting in exchange. The toy, which is small, lightweight, and shaped like a lipstick-style bullet vibrator, is primarily made out of ABS plastic—the exact same rigid, uncomfortable material as the Magic Bullet, which costs a fraction of the Tango X’s price. In a one-to-one comparison, the Tango X actually falls short of the Magic Bullet in several areas: it operates at around 53 decibels, so it’s slightly louder; it has a runtime of about two hours, so the battery life isn’t as long; and it’s not as simple to operate.
A big part of the buzz surrounding the Tango X is its various rumbly vibration patterns and speed settings. It has seven modes in total—just like the Magic Bullet and PlusOne—but up to eight different speed levels. The toy’s vibrations are rumbly, though at the highest speed, we found it only gets up to around 157 Hz, which isn’t as powerful as our Best Overall pick, the Maude Vibe. And for some beginners, the toy’s multiple buttons may be trickier to navigate compared to devices with one-button functionality; I found myself having to reference the instruction manual more than once to find specific settings, which isn’t the kind of thing you want to deal with when you’re getting busy.
Though the Tango X comes with a silky travel pouch and carries an excellent warranty (two years of coverage plus a 100-day return window), you could get essentially the same kind of experience with either of the two more budget-friendly bullet vibes we’ve mentioned and save yourself a lot of money in the process.

Blush Gaia Eco Rechargeable Bullet - Speed settings: 5
- Vibration patterns: 5
- Vibration frequency: 79 Hz to 329 Hz
- Material: “BioFeel” plant-based plastic; silicone
- Waterproof: Splashproof
- Rechargeable: Yes
Billed as the world’s first biodegradable bullet vibrator, the Gaia Eco from Blush Novelties is fully rechargeable and made from recycled materials. If sustainability matters a lot to you, this toy might be worth it, if only for those reasons.
But that’s where most of the appeal begins and ends. At under 3 inches long, it’s small and discreet, yet the toy’s design isn’t very ergonomic. The tiny size might actually make it difficult for some users to grip (it certainly did for me). Not only that, but the tip is rounded—not pointed or slanted like other bullets we checked out—so there wasn’t much precision, making it tough to build momentum during solo use.
Though the Gaia Eco is easy to operate because it only has one button, the vibrations are buzzy, reaching up to 329 Hz at the toy’s highest setting, which could overwhelm some beginners. The battery life isn’t that strong, either; it’s good for a little over an hour at the most. Thanks to its small size, using it during sex isn’t difficult, but given how basic its features are, it probably won’t do much to titillate your partner.

Lelo Lyla 2 - Vibration patterns: 8
- Vibration frequency: 33 Hz to 139 Hz
- Material: Silicone; ABS plastic
- Waterproof: Not really
- Rechargeable: Mixed; controller requires two AAA batteries
One thing that the LELO Lyla 2 definitely has going for it is aesthetics. Of all the silicone toys we tested, the Lyla 2 looks and feels the most luxurious, which is true of most of the brand’s toys. They tend to have an upscale vibe to match their high-end price tags, and in this sense, the Lyla 2 doesn’t miss the mark.
Beyond that, this remote-controlled bullet vibrator has some serious issues with ease of use, power, and connectivity. Our lab testers found that its vibration frequency ranged from 33 Hz to 139 Hz, which is on the lower side. Yet it was one of the louder toys we examined, hitting over 55 decibels, which is roughly as loud as a normal conversation (and thus, definitely not whisper-quiet).
Both the Lyla 2 and its matching remote vibrate, so in a way, it feels like you’re getting two toys. But in testing, the remote felt needlessly complicated. In addition to having three buttons, it’s touch-responsive and uses motion sensor technology, meaning you can control the Lyla 2’s intensity via those buttons, or with the flick of a wrist by tipping the remote up or down.
Sounds great in theory, right? It is, provided you can get the toy to actually turn on. Though the remote is wireless and supposed to work up to 118 feet, the connection dropped very easily every time I tried to use it with my partner. Sometimes, the Lyla 2 wouldn’t even turn on at all, even when the remote was fully operational, which is especially frustrating given you can’t turn on the bullet any other way. For $160, you should be getting the Cadillac of bullet vibrators. But once you get past all the flashy bells and whistles (which mostly feel confusing and unnecessary), the Lyla 2 is all looks with very little oomph, and way too buggy to justify the big sticker price.

The Tester
Credit: Reviewed / Timothy Renzi There are a variety of factors that the Sexperts here at Reviewed take into consideration when testing bullet vibrators—from feel to noise level.
Hi, I’m Shayna, a freelance writer for Reviewed. I’ve covered health and sexuality for about a decade and written about all kinds of things, from pubic hair oil to gender-inclusive swimwear. Sex toys are a particular passion of mine though because I think they help empower folks to love the skin they’re in and find pleasure on their own terms.
Because of this, I have a lot of appreciation for bullet vibrators because they can be a lot more versatile than some folks give them credit for. They’re usually small and can be great gateway sex toys for beginners who are looking for something easy and not-so-intimidating to start out with. With bullet vibes, you don’t have to spend a lot on one to have a good time, and you can use them to explore what you like without putting a ton of extra pressure on yourself to have it all figured out.
The Tests
When it came time to pick which products we wanted to test for this, we stuck to bullet vibrators from major brands and retailers. While user reviews factored into the selection process, we also wanted to spotlight specific models—like the We-Vibe Tango X—that are trendy right now and frequently appear on “best-of” lists to see whether they were as powerful or as “whisper-quiet” as claimed.
In terms of ranking, we had some specific criteria in mind, including:
- Ease of use: How easy was it to turn a device on/off, charge it, and navigate its variable speeds and pattern modes? Did it feel intuitive and beginner-friendly, or did it feel like the instruction manual needed to be kept within arm’s reach at all times? If it felt more like the latter, that knocked a toy down a few pegs in our scoring.
- Vibration frequency: How powerful was each toy, and were the vibrations more rumbly or buzzy? Most brands are opaque about this and don’t specify a toy’s frequency range, making it tough to figure out how “powerful” something really is, so we wanted clearer answers.
- Noise levels: How loud was a toy at its highest setting? Most sex toys claim to be whisper-quiet, but brands never give specific details beyond that, so this can be a huge gray area for shoppers.
- Water tolerance: How safe was a toy in the tub or shower? While all the models we looked at claimed to have some level of water resistance, we wanted to see how each toy performed after being exposed to water and whether there were any noticeable signs of water entry.
- Material: Most of the toys we looked at were made from body-safe silicone or anodized aluminum, but many budget-friendly bullet vibes on the market are made from ABS plastic, so we factored a couple of each into our selection process.
- Overheating: Some vibrators can get really hot if they’re running for long periods or if they’re being used under the covers. Toys made from ABS plastic can be especially prone to this.
- Battery life: Certain toys were battery-operated, while others were rechargeable. In addition to measuring longevity, we looked at how easy it was to charge each toy and whether or not there were any hassles to the process.
- Value: We considered each brand’s warranty program in addition to the toy’s price when determining whether or not something was worth the money.
Here’s where things get sciencey: Our lab testers used a vibration meter to measure acceleration, velocity, and displacement for each bullet vibrator we checked out. They measured each one at its highest and lowest setting to estimate an overall vibration frequency range. Toys with a range exceeding 180 Hz were considered “buzzy,” while those falling under that range were considered “rumbly.”
To determine noise levels, our lab testers turned each device up to its highest setting, then used a decibel meter to record findings in a-weighted decibels, or dBA, which takes into account how the human ear actually perceives that sound. For each reading, testers were approximately 6 inches away from the toy.
In addition to those tests, we let each toy run for about 10 minutes on its highest setting, then used a thermal imaging camera to measure the highest temperature it reached. We also did many observational tests, like checking for signs of water leakage or altered function in toys that were immersed in shallow water for about five minutes.
What You Should Know about Bullet Vibrators
Credit: Reviewed / Timothy Renzi Bullet vibrators can be best described as hand-held, compact sex toys for targeted stimulation.
What Is a Bullet Vibrator?
If you’re looking for your first sex toy, bullet vibrators are a great place to start. These types of vibrators are usually the smallest (hence the name) and at just a few inches long, they can be remarkably discreet. Many are tiny enough to fit inside a purse or the palm of your hand, which allows for easy handling. They’re also fairly simple, straightforward, and intuitive to use, so they can be a fantastic option for beginners.
Though you might think bullet vibrators are only good for clitoral stimulation, that isn’t always the case. You can use them to massage the inner thighs, perineum, and other erogenous zones, making these toys versatile enough for all kinds of play. And unlike some higher-end, app-enabled devices, the best bullet vibrators are all about simplicity, offering a basic range of speeds and patterns. Many even provide one-button functionality, which can be great for beginners.
Beyond the classic rounded pill look, they come in various styles. Some are shaped like eggs or could even pass for a tube of lipstick, while others may be curved for G-spot stimulation. They’re not always phallic-looking, which can be great if you’re searching for a sex toy that’s more inclusive and gender-neutral.
Regarding material, most are made from body-safe silicone, ABS plastic, or a combination of the two. Silicone toys are generally softer and easier to clean and maintain than plastic versions, which can sometimes be prone to overheating. Certain higher-end models may even be built from nonporous stainless steel or anodized aluminum.
A tiny bullet vibrator won’t pack the same punch as the Hitachi Magic Wand, but that’s okay. For beginners who might not know what they like yet or how much power they really want from a toy, bullet vibes can help bridge the orgasm gap in a major way. Many offer a variety of vibration patterns and speeds, although some budget-friendly models may only have an on/off button with limited vibration speeds and one vibration pattern. How Do You Use a Bullet Vibrator?
Because bullet vibrators are often meant to be straightforward and intuitive, they can be a fantastic starting point for beginners. They can be used externally or internally, but for the most part, you’ll probably use these toys externally unless you’ve got a G-spot bullet vibe.
The tips of most bullet vibrators are either pointed or slanted so they can deliver targeted stimulation around the clitoris. But vulva owners aren’t the only folks who can enjoy them, and they can also be fun to use along other erogenous zones, such as the inner thighs, nipples, or perineum. We wouldn’t recommend using bullet vibes for anal play just because many of the smaller models don’t have a flared base, so it could get stuck in the rectum and be a hassle to retrieve. (However, many P-spot vibrators are safe and intended for anal use, so we’d recommend using one of those over a classic bullet vibe if that’s what you’re looking for.)
While it might not always feel necessary, lubricants can help make the experience better, too, especially if your toy is made from ABS plastic. Unless otherwise indicated, you’ll want to avoid using silicone lubricant with silicone-based toys; a good rule of thumb is to stick to water-based lubricants that’ll provide extra glide and cushioning without potentially damaging the device’s material.
If you’re using a bullet vibrator around your clitoris, try to avoid pressing the tip of the toy directly into the area. While everyone’s threshold is different, this could be overwhelming and cause some initial discomfort. Instead, start off slow and massage in circular motions around the labia until you feel really relaxed and ready to go. If your partner is into it, you can also work them into foreplay. To get started, ask them to hold the toy lightly against your clitoris or elsewhere along the labia, gradually increasing the speed as you react more to the massage.
How Much Should a Bullet Vibrator Cost?
Prices for vibrators can vary based on a number of factors, including size, material, and Bluetooth connectivity. But most aren’t that fancy, so you can find bullet vibrators on sites like Amazon for as little as $4.
On average, though, most are priced between $10 to $30. For premium models, expect to spend around $40 to $60. Some higher-end brands charge considerably more than that, and in this list, we spotlighted a few that cost between $80 and $160. But in those instances, that’s why we were considerably more critical: If you can easily find hundreds of bullet vibrators for under $30, devices being sold for over four to five times that should be foolproof and worth the investment. Otherwise, spending so much more seems like a rip-off when you can get an equal or better performance for significantly less.
Should You Buy Bullet Vibrators on Amazon?
Just because you can buy a bullet vibrator on Amazon for $4 doesn’t necessarily mean you should. Like with any online shopping on that site, you’re bound to come across a lot of cheap dupes, and the shipping condition and overall quality of certain products can heavily depend on the seller.
But before you buy anything, try to vet the seller and examine their storefront. With something as intimate as a sex toy, it’s imperative that your product does exactly what it claims and is made from body-safe materials. You don’t want to take any unnecessary chances with a poorly-made device, so do your research. You can also check out sites like FakeSpot to track and analyze user reviews on the site, which helps with figuring out their veracity.
When in doubt, it helps to stick to major brands. Makers like We-Vibe, PlusOne, and LELO are well-known and established in the sex toy industry. A product from one of them is more likely to be the real deal than if you grab something from a third-party seller that has a generic product name which seems like an amalgam of random keywords. Also, if you receive something from Amazon that doesn’t have a tamper-proof sticker or has one that’s been damaged, consider it a red flag and reach out to the seller immediately—the quality might be suspect.
